About Us

Formed under the 50th Act of Parliament in 1968, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) today stands as a multi-faceted Central Armed Police Force under the Ministry of Home Affairs. From its modest beginning with just 3,129 personnel, the Force has grown into a formidable strength of 2.20 lakh personnel, providing security cover to 361 critical national installations, including 70 airports. The Force maintains 12 Reserve Battalions and operates 08 state-of-the-art training institutions.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) provides a comprehensive security umbrella to some of the nation's most critical and sensitive installations. Its mandate spans nuclear installations, space establishments, airports, seaports, power plants, sensitive Government buildings, the Delhi Metro, the Central Jail in Jammu & Kashmir, and the personal security of VIPs.

The Force shoulders the proud responsibility of guarding the Parliament House, the "Temple of Democracy." In the course of its duties, CISF interacts with as many as one crore citizens every day, making it one of the most visible and public-facing security forces in the country.

CISF is the only Central Armed Police Force with a full-fledged Fire Wing. Through its consultancy services, it extends its security and fire-safety expertise to prestigious institutions, including the SBI Data Centres at Mumbai, Chennai and Hyderabad, AIIMS New Delhi, IIM Indore, and the Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple at Varanasi.

With the largest contingent of women personnel among the armed forces, CISF remains steadfastly committed to its guiding motto of "Protection and Security."
